Then

history of the lodge

Holland Lake Lodge was built in 1924 as a guest lodge. At the time it opened, it was a two-day stage coach ride from Missoula to the lodge. The main lodge burned in 1946 and was rebuilt with the current structure the following year. Power was brought into the valley in the late 50’s, and Highway 83 was paved in the early 60’s.

Now

the lodge today

This property reflects authentic Montana, with charming rustic lakeside cabins, a proud main lodge circa 1947, and to-die-for food served in the dining room.  Described as a small slice of heaven, this intimate getaway will give you the full Montana experience: a respite from it all with plush accommodations, stunning mountain views, a jumping point for adventure and genuine attentive service.

Future

PLANNING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

A New Chapter at Holland Lake Lodge
Montana’s historic lakeside retreat is entering a new era. Under new stewardship, the Lodge aims to soon reopen for private group bookings, seasonal events, and community gatherings — all with a deep commitment to conservation, connection, and the spirit of this special place.
Thank you to Christian Wohlfeil for caring for the Lodge for more than 20 years!

It’s our honor to share our guiding principles as we transition into this new role.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
We believe in protecting what matters: wild spaces, quiet mornings, and the kind of hospitality that doesn’t shout.
We believe there’s value in things that last — hand-built cabins, old trees, well-worn paths, and relationships that deepen with time.
We believe a lodge should reflect its surroundings: honest, beautiful, and a little rugged.
We believe that nature doesn’t need to be improved — just experienced. On foot. By paddle. With a good coat and an open heart.
We believe in making space — for stillness, for connection, for laughter, and for the people who return here year after year, drawn to something they can’t quite name.
We believe that simple comforts — a warm drink, a dry place, a view that stops you — are worth more than the trend of the day.
We believe in community. Not just as a word, but as a way of doing business: hiring local, listening often, giving back.
We believe that you don’t need luxury to feel rich — you need time, beauty, and the freedom to slow down.
We believe in preserving this place — not just for guests, but for bears, birds, and bull trout too.
We believe that what we’re building here is more than a business; it’s a lifestyle.
